My research paper is on Science, Health, and Environmental Issues, "With so many problems on planet Earth, should the United States continue to fund space exploration?" This paper is going to show you some of the advantages and disadvantages of Space Exploration. As one would think, there are a lot of ups and downs. We, the United States, continue to spend millions on millions of dollars to fund space exploration even though, we have problems here on Earth such as starvation, loss of jobs and poverty. Also there is a lot to be explored here on planet earth and in my opinion we should use some of the money to explore some places like Antarctica and deep beneath the sea. Why spend so much money on space exploration when we haven’t even explored planet earth fully yet? Also I believe that we should spend some money on other things such as unsolved homicides and disasters happening all over the world. But we also have come up with some great things that we use here on earth that started while funding space exploration and I will get to that later on in this paper. In my opinion we are spending way too much money on Space Exploration, but when you break it down into little bits and pieces it doesn’t seem all that bad. “As of 2010 the United States of America gave 18.7 billion dollars to support space exploration. Yes indeed that is a lot of money, but I looked something up and this is what I found; “This works out to about $60 dollars a year which is $5.00 a month, or $1.25 a week, or $0.18 cents a day out of the $4,000 to $8,000 the average American pays in taxes each year”. (How Much Does Space Exploration Cost?).

18.7 billion dollars is a lot of money that could be used here on earth. Also, remember, this is just the United States of America, this is not including other countries such as China (1.2 Billion), Russia (800-900 Million) and so many other countries as well. I honestly hope that we find something living on another planet, but I believe we need to change our priorities before we spend that much money for space exploration. I mean we have people all over this world literally starving to death. Shouldn’t we as people make sure that that stuff comes first? Shouldn’t we do what we can to help them? I mean we are trillions of dollars in debt here in America and we are using money for what? I do not watch the news that often, but here lately I have not heard anything good coming from our space exploration funding. It could also cause our environment to worsen with all the gases being exposed on takeoff. Our environment already stinks as it is. Plus it is very dangerous. Remember when the space shuttle in 2003 exploded over Texas? If I recall right, there were eight astronaut’s killed in that crash. Our technology is so advanced in life but we cannot put a man on the moon without something going wrong? But we are putting a program together to take people to the moon or Mars? It truly bamboozles me to think about it. I know they are trying to do positive things but come on.

I believe there should be some kind of exploration in space, but it is not worth taking moms, dads, sons, daughters, husband, and wives lives. I know that they put their selves there to do so, but surely with all the money all these countries, including our own, are putting forward to space exploration, they can come up with something else not to harm anyone. For instance, we have/have had remote controlled vehicles/robot type devices on the moon before. So why not work on that and maybe in the future save some money and try to make those devices as useful as possible? That is just one question I have. Why spend so much money on space exploration when we haven’t even explored planet earth fully yet? We, the United States, continue to spend millions on millions of dollars to fund space exploration even though, we have problems here on Earth. “The scientific knowledge obtainable from our own planet, particularly organisms that...
