“In what ways are the three main theological variants of Christianity (liberalism Evangelicalism and fundamentalism), similar to the variants of Judaism?”

Though one can be of a particular religion, along with millions of other people, they are often divided in to variants, each with different ideas, practices and beliefs. This occurs in all religions, including Christianity and Judaism. There is always the group strong belief, and a group of loose belief, and of course the ones in-between. Although Judaism and Christianity are different religions, they both have much in common, and each main variant can closely relate to a variant of the other.

Liberal Christianity closely corresponds to that of Progressive Judaism.   Both variants believe that the world is changing. In order for the religion not to be forgotten or loose appeal, it needs to keep up with the ever-changing world and society around them. They both feel that they can maintain their integrity and reputation while changing to the needs of modern society. Both generally support homosexuality, but at the same time do not encourage the homosexual lifestyle. They are both more relaxed on the teachings of their scriptures, and believe that the sacred text may contain errors. They both believe in the equality of men and women in every part of life and religion. They both place more emphasis on moral and ethical conduct rather than ritual observance. Both feel they have a duty to not only their religion, but also the human population.

Progressive Judaism does not always require followers and converters to undergo and physical changes such as circumcision or drawing blood. They are however expected to have an understanding of the religion.   They are not against abortion but feel it should be thought through thoroughly before being undertaken. They do not believe it should be a decision to be undertaken carelessly or light heartedly, and should be avoided wherever possible.
