Water Bottle Menace
In discussions of plastic water bottles, one controversial issue has been the effects it has on the environment. On the other hand, people don’t dispose of them properly in which case they end up in our oceans and our flood drains. Others even maintain, over flowing recyclable trash bins. My own view is we should reduce the amount of plastic water bottles distributed each year and start purchasing more eco friendly reusable containers. Plastic water bottles are a bad product for consumers because they are unhealthy, cause environmental problems, and costly.
Many people argue whether or not plastic water bottles are Safe for us humans and our environment. Over research and study many suggest that it just isn’t the plastic that is to blame it is a potent chemical called BPA which is to blame for many health complications. Scientist have found this chemical to be dangerous, therefore many consumers are more and more cautious of whether to use bottled water or tap. Which ever you choose, you are drinking the same thing. The price of bottled water is unquestionably costly. Over a year of buying plastic water bottles, Americans spend on average more then 15 billion dollars. “We've come to pay good money two or three or four times the cost of gasoline for a product we have always gotten, and can still get, for free, from taps in our homes”(Fishman). Americans are choosing to spend money on a product that is not only bad for our health and our environment, but is burning a whole in our pockets. Americans are in an economy where jobs are hard to come by, and they are worried about buying something we get free.
Bottles are known to be the cause in many environmental problems. In many test they have discovered “…a surprising array of chemical contaminants in every bottled water brand analyzed, including toxic byproducts of chlorination, at levels no different than routinely found in tap water” ( Bottle).
