Want and Math
Why is math important? “Why is math important?” You hear these words sometime in your life. It could be from a student or maybe even you yourself said it. We use it for so many things throughout our daily lives. Sadly most people don’t like math, because they don’t like doing all the work. Many people don’t understand why math is important, there so many reasons why it is they just don’t know. A lot of jobs use math including Accountants, Architects, Engineers, and lawyers and many more. You may think you already know what you’re going to be when you grow up and that job doesn’t require math things can change. What if you decide to be something else and it requires math. You will regret not taking those math classes. One reason math is important is because it helps us receive useful information. Whenever you don’t know something or just want to prove a friend wrong, you go to Google. Google has all the answers. Google uses math to help us search for things. Here is a quote from an article by ABC Science, they say “Google use sophisticated mathematical and statistical algorithms to search for the information you need.” Google also uses math to find places you need to go. ABC Science’s article says Google maps “uses advancing imaging algorithms to enable us to find places, directions, zoom in and out, change level of detail and find a restaurant we’d like to dine at”. Without math Google wouldn’t be the same. Another reason why math is important is because it helps you with your personal finances. Examples of this are when you’re dining out at a restaurant you found using Google maps and you and your friends finish eating and the bill comes. After you guys finish arguing who should pay for the bill you decide to split the bill evenly. That requires math if you want to divide it fairly. You also use it to balance a check book or even when you’re cooking. If the recipe calls for half a cup of flour you need to know how to cut something in half. One final

Mathematics has always been a subject that I enjoy. For me, it is simple. Numbers just seem to make sense to me. Even upon entering high school where math changed drastically- new terms, new formulas, and even new numbers that I wasn’t familiar with- I have managed to gracefully continue to excel in the subject. I can’t honestly say that I have grasped every Mathematic concept with finesse, sometimes I have even become overwhelmed by that coursework, but I have been fortunate enough to have phenomenal math teachers to guide me. Two teachers that I recall very well are Mrs. O’Neal and Ms. Peyton. Mrs. O’Neal was my tenth grade Algebra II teacher and I remember her class being my absolute favorite that year. She had an engaging personality and her teaching style was great. She was very persistent in the way that she explained things because she wanted to be sure that we all understood. Ms. Peyton was very similar to her, except that she possessed a more relaxed, wittier kind of personality. She usually had clever shortcuts and strategies that assisted us in grasping concepts in my eleventh grade Pre-Calculus class. Between the flair with which these teachers taught their classes and the encouragement and motivation that they provided after school, I have still managed to excel in math.…

As I type this sentence millions of students all over the country are in their math class either a) struggling to open their eyelids or b) tapping their fingers due to boredom and impatience. They have all failed to understand how the topic would later come of use. Although mathematics may seem to be “unnecessary” it teaches our brains to strategize, and think differently through the use of trial and error and problem solving. Most individuals consider mathematics to be a dreadful topic, and can never really comprehend how it can be beneficial in our lives on a daily basis. Most of the time, they may seem to be correct. However, they are not. Most of the time, we are using its strategies without even acknowledging it. We use it for almost anything we do: currency, measurement, time, etc. Two examples of math we use on a regular basis are Euler and Hamiltonian Circuits.…
