Wall-Mart is a well known store in our country for the low prices strategy, but despite of it success it have been victim of critics, sometimes affecting its sustaining growth, but sometimes not. In this essay I will talk about how Wall-Mart stands despite many critics.
Founder of Wall-Mart was Sam Walton, who traversed all the public opinion against his company whit a crusade to cast Wall-Mart in a bad light, including Wal-Mart Watch and Wake up Wall Mart. The critics focused on the zealous pursuit of low costs of Wal-Mart, were substandard wages and insufficient medical benefits for its employees. They complained too, saying that most of the suppliers were Chinese, ant this was reducing jobs for American citizens. But the truth is that Wal-Mart is the largest retailer in the U.S. as well in Canada and Mexico, providing 120,000 new jobs annually, and the majority of costumers of supercenters were attracted by Wall-Mart. Also is known that the company has been awarded by many institutions like Fortune the magazine, Discount Store News, Financial Times, Ron Brown Award, and American Veterans Awards.
Sam Walton the founder of the company started working as a management trainee at J.C. Penney, having its own company later, Wall-Mart, is established that this enterprise has a 20 percent labor costs than unionized supermarkets. But this doesn´t saves the company for other accusations, like the one that said Wal-Mart provides job to illegal immigrants. The founder took matters into and defended the company by saying he will help to locate managers hiring illegal immigrants. Also Wall-Mart was criticized for refusing to stock CD´S without a parental advisory sticker, Preven (morning-after pill). Really these issues were only some of the 6,000 lawsuits that Wal-Mart was confronting.
