My research topic is the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and I chose this topic because I always found it amusing that it took so long for African Americans to legally be allowed to vote. I also thought this topic was appropriate since we now have an African American president, and the African Americans citizens need to know that voting I important because we didn’t always have that right. I am conducting my research because I am genuinely interested in the Voting Rights for African Americans. It’s important for me to know my past in order for me to understand how far we’ve come. By completing my research I plan to gain knowledge about the subject and I also hope to encourage African Americans to exercise their right to vote. IV. Background of the Problem
The need for my study relies solely on the fact that African Americans don’t go out and vote they way they should. The pass presidential election brought out the most African Americans in a long time and it shouldn’t be like that. But I believe if more African Americans knew of the struggles our people went through to gain these rights, and then maybe they wouldn’t take them for granted. V. Rationale
