I. Statement of subject/research topic
My research topic is the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and I chose this topic because I always found it amusing that it took so long for African Americans to legally be allowed to vote. I also thought this topic was appropriate since we now have an African American president, and the African Americans citizens need to know that voting I important because we didn’t always have that right. II. Statement of research question, hypothesis

Issue: Importance of voting for African Americans in2010. Research Question: How did the Voting Rights Act of 1965 affect theoutcome of the 2010 presidency? Hypothesis: Barack Obama had won by the millions of votes that were placed for him by African Americans, hadthe Voting Right Act of 1965 not occurred, AfricanAmericans would not have been able to vote andJohn McCain would have been out president. III. Statement of Purpose

I am conducting my research because I am genuinely interested in the Voting Rights for African Americans. It’s important for me to know my past in order for me to understand how far we’ve come. By completing my research I plan to gain knowledge about the subject and I also hope to encourage African Americans to exercise their right to vote. IV. Background of the Problem

The need for my study relies solely on the fact that African Americans don’t go out and vote they way they should. The pass presidential election brought out the most African Americans in a long time and it shouldn’t be like that. But I believe if more African Americans knew of the struggles our people went through to gain these rights, and then maybe they wouldn’t take them for granted. V. Rationale
