Sigurd, the Dragon Slayer retold by Olivia E. Coolidge, recounts a myth about a boy who goes on a quest to become a hero. The plan for Sigurd and Regin’s quest was that “Tomorrow [they would] ride out against Fafnir, and the treasure shall be [their] own (680).” Their quest was very simple to achieve because of Sigurd's determination to defeat their enemy, cook Fafnir’s heart for Regin, and gain the treasure Regin promises to him. Once they arrive, they see Regin’s brother, Fafnir, who went under the transformation of becoming a dragon, causing Sigurd to make a plan of attack, and, “With that he straightened his knees and drove the sword with all his force (Sigurd 681).” Sigurd’s strategy works when he succeeds in defeating his enemy, which…

Ever since the beginning of story telling there have been many stories depicted of the perfect hero, a hero who follows society’s rules. These fictional heroes were worshipped like gods, and that is why many have dreamed of becoming an epic hero; bathing in the glory and the fame that comes with it. Burton Raffel has translated one hero’s story that is traced all the way back to the early sixth century in the epic poem Beowulf. Throughout the poem he has been depicted as an epic hero due to the involvement of gods, superhuman strength, and heroic ideas.…

The theme of my collage was conflict. It was about the Hungarian War of 1956. When I started to work on the collage the theme was something wanted the viewer to understand as they looked at it. I did not want to give more details about this war. I wanted the viewer to see the collage and have curiosity about the subject to research it. I wanted the viewer to wonder why 1956? As I progress through making my collage I want to go over the emphasis of the number 56 in red represents my theme, the balance of the images in the collage and color.…

There have been many changes sense the early elections. One change from those early times were political parties, after the war of 1812 ended the federalist parties. After that came the era of good feelings which in that time no political parties existed. Only sectionalism existed which in most cases caused problems. The bank of the united states helped established economical independence. When the charter ended in 1811, a second bank opened further advancing American economic independence.…

The tale of an epic hero unlike any other thrives on in Beowulf, who is a powerful warrior and leader. By definition, a hero is typically a man who is greatly admired or idealized for their noble, courageous and notable qualities, exceptional achievements and brave feats. Beowulf, warrior of Geatland and King of the Swedes, battles monsters and accomplishes, no doubt, heroic deeds in this centuries-old text. In this essay, I argue the qualities of a true hero and that Beowulf possesses each of these and utilizes them in this ancient and epic tale.…

They have to struggle with paperwork to get registered to vote, which also registers them for the eligible list of candidates for the jury pool, a task nobody wants anything to do with. Then after the hard paperwork and jury duty comes Election Day. The first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, which leads to great confusion as to what day the elections are on. As I sit down and analyze the events that had significance in the time period that was covered in our class, I continue to be amazed at the authorization of The Voting Rights Act in 1965. Its substance not only had such a tremendous impact on many citizens during that time, but it has continued to be a critical component in our government still till this day. For almost fifty years it has been amended and restructured to improve voting rights. The years after the Voting Rights Act has caused a lot of debate and much development to citizens voting rights in America, but many people don’t know what ultimately led to our country achieving this great…
