The Company:

Allen Solly was founded in 1744 by a company called William Hollin and Co Ltd. The brand was purchased some time in the 90's by a new company called Madura Garments which was a part of Madura Coats. Madura Coats was a big producer of threads.

The Vision Of Allen Solly :
The company aimed to emerge as a brand which was totally new and did not stick to conventions. “Friday Dressing” was introduced to give the company a stronghold. Initially the Indian markets was not open to experimental apparel for men. Friday dressing by Allen Solly gave Indian corporates a chance to transform their wardrobes. The new formal wear was relaxed and not boring. The Aditya Birla Group took over Allen Solly in 2001 .

Allen Solly brings together people from different walks of life and unites them in the matters of style and attitude. The innovative garments of Allen Solly give people an identity in the work place and while chilling out.

Allen Solly Products :
• Allen Solly manufactures very comfortable cotton and linen half and full sleeve shirts in solids of beautiful prints patterns like checks and stripes. They come in attractive color combinations of white and yellow, blue, pink, green and the list goes on. • Allen Solly T-shirts are available in half or full sleeves in vibrant colors like orange, black, blue etc. The t-shirts are made of pure cotton. • Allen Solly Trousers are pure cotton varieties which have flat or pleated fronts. Allen Solly is considered to be the brand that breaks all rules and conventions of men's wear.

1995 - Launch of Byford 'Knitted shirts embellished with a modern, fashionable, in-step-with-the-world accent' 1996 - Launch of Peter England - India's largest selling mid priced shirt brand 1999 - Launch of San Frisco trousers 'mid priced formal and smart casual trousers that last' 2000 - Acquisition by Aditya Birla Group.

Allen Solly, the popular formal wear brand from Madura Garments, is all set to wear a new look in the next six months. While it has already introduced casual wear and denims in the apparel section, it would soon launch Allen Solly branded ladies shoes, eyewear and perfume in 2010. “Allen Solly started with its unique concept of Friday dressing. It had redefined the branded apparel industry in India back in 1993. In 2001, the brand introduced women’s wear. And we have been updating. While formal wear contributes 10 to 15 cent to the total turnover, casual wear contributes 65 per cent to the total turnover. In fact, the casual wear market is moving faster than formal wear,” said R Satyajit, chief operating officer, Allen Solly. Satyajit said, “We are in the process of introducing Allen Solly branded ladies shoes, eyewear and perfume. We might source these items from outside but all the accessories will be under our brand name.” The brand would soon be unveiling its new retail identity in line with ‘new thinking’. It has roped in one of India’s leading design and consultancy house — Shining— headed by Shombit Sengupta. Allen Solly, one of the premium brands from Madura Garments, contributes almost 28 to 30 per cent to the turnover. This apart, the company also houses brands such as Van Heusen, Louis Philippe.
