Executive Summary

From ancient times, the life and livelihood of rural Bangladesh were far different from those of urban. Few decades ago, the education, occupation, residence, kind of family, number of family members, income source, activity throughout the year, food habit etc. of rural people have a different trend from those of urban people. But with course of time and due to industrialization the lifestyle and livelihood of rural people have been changed a lot and are continuously changing.

The overall trend of rural life has changed within last few decades. People switched from oldfashioned house to modern storeyed buildings. The joint family tradition of rural culture has almost been abolished. Almost all are now having single families. Though the food choice has been affected by price hike, their food habit is parallel to earlier one. Similarly, in case of livelihood, now people are engaged in diversified professions switching from earlier agro-based occupations. There are people of professions like- plumbers, masons, mechanics, workers in brick field, stationary businessmen, hardwire businessmen, clothing businessmen, agricultural products sellers and farmers etc. Besides women have also started working along with men. They are also earning livelihood for their families.

The main reasons behind the changes are- Industrialization, development, involvement of urban culture and transportation facility between urban and rural area. All these factors caused the changes in rural life and livelihood of Bangladesh.

We also expect some more positive changes in upcoming days. Rural male and female are being expected to work together for the development of their lives and livelihood.

At the end we expect a rise in our economy through rural development in all the sectors. Thinking the country as a whole, we must focus on the development of rural Bangladesh which will eventually turn our country into a better one.
