Virtual reality (VR) also known as virtual environment (VE) is ways to immerse you’re self into something that in reality is not there. Essentially make believe.
Where did virtual reality begin? Why do we have it? Who invented it? And how may we benefit from it?
In the late 1950s a young electrical engineer named Douglas Engelbart had a vision to connect a computer to a screen to solve problems. (Pg1para3virtual history). His idea at that time was rejected. But in the early 1960s other people were thinking the same thing. The time was right for vision of computing. Communications was intersecting with computing and graphics technology and the first computers based on transistors instead of vacuum tubes were becoming available. This synergy made for more user friendly computers which in turn laid down the possibilities for personal computers, computer graphics, and a while later the emergence of virtual reality. (Pg1para4virtual reality)
By way of computer technology they could create a three dimensional world that a user could manipulate and explore while feeling as if they were in that world. Scientist, theorist and engineers have worked hard to achieve this goal. (Pg1Para3 Howstuffworks)
In virtual reality a person experiences what is called immersion, the feeling of being inside and a part of that world. He is also able to interact with the virtual world. The combination of immersion and interaction in the virtual world is called telepresence. Jonathon Steuer defined it as... [continues]
