Manny people think that games like “Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3” and “Battlefield” makes the youth of today do violent. Violent video games do not contribute to youth violence.
As a way to disprove that violent video games do not have an effect of the youth. Dr. Vincent Matthews from Indiana University did a research study to find out what violent video games did to the brain of 28 young adult males. This is not very accurate to see if violent video games have an effect on young children. Also he only tested on men and men are not the only people that play video games. (Park)
Dr. Vincent Matthews divided the students up and one half played two hours of violent video games a day for two weeks. The other half played non violent video games for two hours for two weeks .he did MRI’s on the students to get a base line reading. The tests were to see the part of the brain that involved emotional and non emotional parts of the brain. (Park)
After the Two weeks Dr. Vincent Matthews then did another MRI on all the test subjects were given the same tests over that was done during the first MRI. It was shown that the students that played the violent video games showed less activity in the areas of the brain that involved emotions, attention and inhibition of impulses. They also found that the students that played the violent video games showed decreased activity in the parts of their brain that regulate attention and concentration. (Park)
Henry Jenkins A professor from MIT wrote a paper called “Reality Bytes: Eight Myths About Video Games Debunked” in his paper he says “young people in general are most likely to be gamers -90 percent of boys and 40 percent of girls play. And that the overwhelming majority of kids who play do NOT commit antisocial acts. According to a 2001 U.S. Surgeon General’s report, the strongest risk factors for school shootings are mental stability and the quality of home life not media exposure.”(Jenkins)
