Three different views on what caused the american revolution.
A. Historian A believes that American Revolution was caused by the French + Indian war. He claims that because of the debt the British was in from the war. So they decided to raise the taxes of the American colonists. To make matters worse, the British had ten thousand troops to pay for that they gained during the war. So they thought that the people should pay for their own defense. On top of that the Proclamation of 1763 did not allow settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. Which the historian thinks was not to put restriction on colonial freedom or any other explanation given. Lawrence Gipson believed it was because the British needed Indian allies, so they promised this land to the Ohio Valley Indians and other cooperating tribes. It led to the American Revolution because the Advantages of Empire were no longer mutual.
B. Historian B believed that the American Revolution was caused by colonist beliefs about the world. He believed there were two factors that influenced the beliefs of the colonist. The first factor was that the colonist believed that every person is supplied w/ natural rights. That liberty was precious and could only be protected by the balance among legislature, king, and courts. The more important factor was the ideology the colonist had about the frontier. The colonist thought that they would be better off w/ a self-government. They were the only ones who could tell what they really needed. The policies later passed by the British provided more proof of the conspiracy against colonial liberty. The colonist also did not like the passing of the Declatory Act. An act that gave the British the power to rule over the colonist. The colonists chose independence over slavery. They came up w/ the Declaration of Independence, which stated the colonist concern for these ideological issues related to their liberty. Which led to the policies we have today.
