Viewpoint of a U.S. Software Engineer Living in 2006
My name is Rashid Malawi and I am a software engineer in Dallas, Texas. I have 2 children
ages 4 and 5. My wife Venisha, who was my high school sweetheart that I married shortly after
finishing graduate school. My family moved to the U.S. from India in 1995. It was at this time
that I began my college career. I completed my undergraduate degree in 1999 and my masters
2001. I then went to work for Allegro Development Corporation in Dallas (Allegro Corp 2011)
during the latter part of 2002 and managed to land a pretty lucrative position which was great for
my young family.

children are deposited at daycare my wife and I kiss one another goodbye and head off to our
respective jobs.
Venisha collects the children from daycare, meet me at the subway station and we all proceed
homeward. Upon arriving home, we begin preparation of dinner. Our meal consists of fresh
vegetables and chicken cooked in a mild curry sauce. Brown rice makes a great side dish along
with hummus, tabouleh with parsley and tomatoes. If were at home in India, we would eat the
vegetables we grew ourselves. However, thanks in part to globalization we are able to purchase
our vegetables at the local supermarket many of which are from our native India and store them
in our... [continues]
