Vegetarianism research project
Every human being needs to eat; we ingest food and get necessary nutrients to live, so deciding what to eat is very important to us. In today’s day and age people have allot more choice in what they can eat compared to 100 years ago when fast food restaurants didn’t exist. As technology is advancing people are also getting more aware of what is healthy for them and what isn’t. Vegetarianism is getting more attention from people who seek a better and healthier life style. There are many questions that people may have about converting to a vegetarian diet such as, is a veggie diet safe? And is a vegetarian diet really better? Two of the main believed reasons for people to stop eating meat are vegetarianism is good for efficient use of the natural resources and reducing the risk of adult diseases. There are also some ethical issues when eating meat such as an objection to killing animals and the process surrounding the production of meat.
Vegetarianism contributes allot to conserving the natural environment. In a wide range of countries over 50% of its land is dedicated to growing live stock. In the rain forest there are mass acres of jungle cleared each day for large scale cattle ranching. This contributes towards global warming as large parts of the rainforest are being demolished. This means the essential environmental service of recycling carbon dioxide into oxygen can no longer be done.   The rainforest also provides us with the cures for many life threatening diseases which cannot be found anywhere else on the planet .Cattle also use a large amount of water. The water used for live stock could be used on grains to feed millions of people around the world.   Vegetarian food requires fewer resources to grow as it takes sixteen pounds of grain to produce a pound of beef and only one pound of grain to produce a pound of bread.
