Varying Effects of Divorce on Parents-Children  
and Grandmothers-Grandchild Relationships

Abstract
This paper explores the review of two scholarly journals from the Journal of Family Issues. The title of the journals are called Later-Life Divorce and Parent-Adult Child Contact and Proximity: A Longitudinal Analysis and Grandmother-Grandchild Relationships Quality Predicts Psychological Adjustment Among Youth From Divorced Families. This paper examines the main points and research of each journal. The similarities and differences of each article is also examined. The students opinion is thoroughly incorporated in it. The research methods in each of the two journals are described. The second journal, Later-Life Divorce and Parent-Adult Child Contact Proximity, discusses how divorce affects the parent and child relationships. The Grandmother-Grandchild Relationships Quality Predicts Psychological Adjustment Among Youth From Divorced Families journal talks about how divorce has a positive affect on the relationship with a child and their grandmother.

Divorce is associated with usually negative and long term effects for the child going through the divorce. Divorce causes the children to have low self-esteem and educational problems. Attachment bonds with parents usually deteriorate during this time period. Children tend to also show a closer relationship with their grandparents during this time as well. The closeness usually involves the grandparent on the mother’s side. The kid fills this set of grandparents is involved more in their live at the time.
