VARK a Guide to Learning Styles and One Subject’s Result
Introduction
The VARK Guide to Learning Styles assessment is one of many approaches to analyzing learning style. Learning style is defined as an individual’s unique approach to learning based on strengths and preferences to modalities of learning (Learning Styles, 2011). VARK stands for visual aural/auditory reading/writing kinesthetic modalities used to acquire information (Fleming, 2001). Learning strategies are defined as techniques used to acquire, integrate, store, and retrieve information (K12, 2011).   Applying the learning strategies in the VARK guide can increase learning potential and give insight into weaker modalities, with the objective of identifying one’s learning style to create an environment that facilitates more efficient learning and supplying strategies for more effective learning.   The following paper will analyze assessment results for one subject, compare and contrast preferred learning strategies with the VARK learning strategies and appraise any changes needed to improve study habits.
Summary of Learning Style Found
The VARK assessment results were as follows the Reading/writing score was 9, Aural/auditory score 8, Visual score 7, and Kinesthetic score 5, with a total score of 29.   These scores suggest a multimodal approach to learning.   Sixty percent of individuals are multimodal using two, three, or four of the modalities in learning (Fleming, 2001). The results show emphasis in the reading/writing and aural modalities, with visual and kinesthetic close behind. Further exploration of the modalities is discussed in the following paragraphs.
