End of the class Essay: What fear or fantasy does the vampire represent in the work? What does the work’s treatment of the vampire tell us about our society’s concern with, or interest in, that particular fear or fantasy? “The Lost Boys” is a 1987 American teen horror film about a dude named Michael who is going throughout the movie trying to figure out if he wanted to be a blood sucking vampire that lives forever or does he want to be a human. The choice of life came about when Michael’s attention landed on Star. Star is a beautiful young woman who lives with the mysterious leader of the local gang, David. I think Star was the girl that everyone messed with. In a way Star could have been the bait to reel Michael into becoming a vampire. Michael must quickly decide on which life style he wants to live. There are many characters in this film that plays a vital role in Michael coming up with his decision. There was a scene where Michael had just drunk the blood of the head vampire and the members of the gang wanted to have some fun with him. So they went to hang under a bridge, literally hang. When everyone else had fallen, Michael was alone; finally he fell and ended up in his bed the next scene. At this point Sam walks into the room with the phone. Michaels change becomes clear to Sam very quickly. Their house was surrounded that night by David and the other members of the gang on motorcycles. That same night Michael was attacked by the dog. The dog had thought Michael wanted to suck the blood of Sam’s’, so the dog defended him. When in front of the mirror Sam noticed that Michael’s reflection was transparent. . It’s pretty clear that Michael wants to be human when he and Sam talked about the situation. Sam was about to give his brother’s secret away to his mother, but that’s his brother, he wanted to help him out. After talking with Sam, Michael decides to go over to star and ask her questions about the changing and symptoms he has been having. They start to...
