Value Paper
To be a good manager there needs to be established an understanding of personal ethical beliefs and their ability to add value to a company. Several criteria are relevant for judging individual leaders, including the person’s values, stage of moral development, conscious intentions, freedom of choice, use of ethical and unethical behavior, and types of influence used (Yukl, 2006). Managers need have a predetermined comprehension of their morals to help deal with ethical issues as they arise. In this paper, I will analyze my personal ethical beliefs assessed by Williams Institute Ethics and Management to determine how they will affect my performance as a manager at Kudler Fine Foods.
The William Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory assessment reinforced my ethical perspective, which focuses on results and consequences of one's actions. My ethical approach most closely aligns with the utilitarian theory of ethics. All conduct should be based on promoting the greatest good for the greatest number of persons. It is important to have concrete evidence when analyzing if individual’s ethical actions. The discussion on process and principle is not as important as achieving the goal that benefits the overall good of society. My approach on ethics focuses on creating rules for ethical conduct for people to follow to achieve what is best for majority of people. An additional approach would be to improve overall satisfaction by creating a more pleasant environment in which people enjoy learning and working together for betterment in society (William Institute, 2008). All suggested styles should have measurable results.
Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) shares similar ethical values as mine. Kathy’s belief is that customers expect the highest quality of products. For this reason, products are pulled from the shelves and replaced as soon as soon as possible if the turnover rate of the product is less than expected.
