AP List of Useful Words

Objectives: This list is designed to give you a good set of tools for both writing and test-taking. The manipulation activity that we will perform with this list will aid you in both your writing, as well as aiding your depth of understanding of the AP test itself.

First semester—You are responsible for defining 20 words a week. In addition, you are also responsible for appropriate use of the word in a sentence (see http://www.thefreedictionary.com/ for good examples) Due on day of Vocabulary quiz ( approximately every two weeks)

Second semester: Each person will be responsible for ______ words. You will need to create a one-word definition, state the part of speech (whether adjective, etc.), and determine a subsection under which the word should be placed. In this manner, each student will have a tool-box of useful words that they may use to edify their writing. Note: If you recall a word that might benefit our list—toss it in! The sections that you should consider for placement are:

1. Author/character’s attitude
2. Author’s writing style
3. Character description (positive)
4. Character description (negative),
5. Character description ( feminine)
6. Character description (masculine)
