The United Nations have been bringing nations together in peace against war since 1945. It is undeniable that the United Nations has faced numerable challenges in the 21st century trying to maintain the support of its member states and uphold its initial aim of protecting those who are unable to protect themselves.   From the organizations founding in 1945 after the devastating war, till fifty years later in a modern today where we are in a world full of conflict and disagreements and vulnerable civilians, if it wasn’t for the efforts of the United Nations many of these disputes would have lead to a new world war and left millions of people unaided.   Yet we also have to consider that in this new millennium there is a huge substantial amount of international issues out there and new ones arising everyday where it comes to a point where we have to question whether the United Nations will be able to prevent and overcome all these difficulties in sufficient time or that those with authority use as much of their power to maintain the aims of the UN rather than to serve for their own agenda. Challenges have faced or are facing at this moment are the conflicts between Israel and Lebanon who is now controlled by Hezbollah, besides the clashes between nations there are countless health problems such as HIV aids the UN has to help solve, the environmental issues the world and UN must not ignore such as the Kyoto Protocol on global warming, and handling North Korean dictator’s mistake of disregarding UN protocol and his lunatic acts he does to and with his country. The United Nations hope to overcome these challenges under their main set of goals and aims made when the organization was formed.
