Bidders Edge is a company that sets up links to other auction sites in order to obtain the best price for an item for its visitors. This is really similar to your idea. Instead of your site linking to auction sites, you want to link to dating sites for the betterment of your visitors. EBay was one of those sites and stated to Bidders Edge that it was not allowed to connect to its servers in any form and will be known as trespassing. After a long trial, EBay won the suit and Bidders Edge was not allowed to link to EBay.   Bidders Edge created a link to EBay which allowed the public to view items that were being auctioned in EBay through Bidders Edge. The link was a direct connection from the Bidders Edge site, to the servers of EBay. When this action was not approved by EBay, Bidders Edge then used a proxy server which is an indirect method of gaining data from EBay (UITS, 2008). When a person from a home or a business gains access to the internet and thus to the web site, they are using a direct connection that will only transfer data to and from the site, whenever the site allows the data to transfer. In the case of Bidders Edge, EBay’s site had limited discretion concerning the transfer of data when a proxy server was used. EBay claimed that the overload of this type of data transfers may damage the system and thus was a cause for “trespass to personal property.”   I feel that the best thing for you to initially do is to gain more knowledge in the legalities of the ecommerce age.
