Professional Practice in Children and Young People's Social care (SCMP)
4222-392

1:2 We as child care professionals have a duty of care to our children we therefore must provide the best care possible. To do do so we must adhere to all relevant update legislation . In my current work setting this includes working to the National Minimum Standards. These are a list of basic standards of care registered providers should provide and aim to exceed when delivering a service or care. The National Minimum Standards set out guidelines for all aspects of care, from living environment, nutrition , personal care, staff training and activities provided. It outlines that all Children should be given choice and that their rights should be upheld. Also the maintenance of a good safe working practice. The general welfare of the Children is paramount and met at all times.
The Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales is concerned with the regulation of social care settings. The undertake regular visitations to monitor standards and the welfare of service users/children in that setting. This will include all aspects of the care, environment to paper work. They may also speak with staff and service users/children and young people to establish the care provided. They will then produce a written report which will outline any short falls or areas needing improvement. They also have the power to shut down a setting if they find any serious problems within a social care home provider.
We are also governed by the Children Act 1989 which was revised in 2004 due to shortfalls and the unfortunate case of Victoria Climbe and the Lord Laming report. Which then as a result introduced the production of the Every Child Matters initiative. In brief this outlines how we as care professionals should work together to/ safeguard Children and young people. It emphasises the need for sharing of information and multidisciplinary approach. In my care setting we are also governed by the Care Standards Act 2000 which is responsible for the regulation and registration of social care settings .It is responsible for the monitoring of standards of settings and the staff employed to work within them. It is concerned for the good standard of care and person centred approach to care provided.
As staff in the care Profession we are also aware of the Data Protection Act 19^98 and our responsibilities within this act. Such as the need for confidentiality and the protection of personal information about our children only being shared with authorised personal .This includes the correct storage and discarding of such material.

1:3 The United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child is a Human rights treaty that grants all children and young people a comprehensive set of important rights.lt was initiated in 1992. The relevant government has responsibility of implementing the legislation across their country.
The Convention stipulates 40 rights to Children and Young People, examples of these rights are-
Development of their personalities, abilities and talents to the fullest potential.
To grow up in an environment of happiness, love and understanding.
To be informed and participate in achieving their rights in an active manner.
Have access to services such as education and healthcare.

The Convention is a universally agreed set of non negotiable standards and obligations. They are based on having respect and worth of each individual, regardless of a persons race , colour , gender .language ! religion .opinions , origins , wealth I birth , status or ability and therefore applies to every human being . These set of rights are what every person working with or parent to a child should be adhering to.

2:1 A Corporate Parent is the term used to describe the collective responsibility across services and across local authorities, to safeguard and promote the life chances of looked after children.
The care provider/setting has the responsibility to look after any child in their care as any parent would do so. They have a duty of care to promote their welfare , health, education, social and emotional needs of looked after children and young people. This will be done with multidisciplinary approach and the target goal being the support of the child’s decisions . Always having the child's best interest at all times.
A Professional carer is a person who has trained to care for persons . Such as Social Workers , Child Care workers , Nurses , foster cares and Doctors. As a childish care worker in an Autistic Unit I am a professional carer. I regularly attend compulsory training and updates to allow me to do so professional and to the best of my ability. I also Follow policies and guidelines. I closely adhere to the National Minimum'
Standards. I as a carer promote independence and choice but maintain a safe environment with controlled risks at all times , allowing the Children to striveand develop.

2:2 Cross Reference to Unit 4222-304 Outcome 1:1

2:3 I think Sometimes Professional relationships with children and young persons can If sometimes impact negatively if it is approached to clinically and all emotion is removed. The carer may overlook the persons true feelings, thoughts and wants. This, could then lead to a lack of trust from the child in that carer. The child may then lose self-confidence and self esteem which could hinder their development. Equally some care professionals may come across intimidating and self involved in their field i or knowledge .This may lead to a break down in work colleague collaboration or |; relationship and therefore effecting the care and support given to the children. Good professional multiagency working and sharing of information for the best interested of the child is essential in our line of work. It is like a link being removed in a chain if this communication breaks down and therefore weakening the strength and quality of care provided. Professionals should always were practicable involve children in decisions involving their needs. This encourages empowerment and self worth. With out this input a child may lose self esteem and feel powerless of their own destiny.
In summary Professional Relationships can be positive with the correct levels of continued communication. The ability to encompass other professionals ideas and views with an open mind and a collaborative approach.

2: 4 Examples of poor practise and unprofessional conduct that may impact on outcomes for children and young people -
Not following Children's care plans or risk assessments.
Allowing personal views or emotion to influence decisions concerning the children.
Inappropriate unrelated conversations in the hearing of children.
Not have a person centred approach to child care and treating each child the same and not respecting their own likes wants and dislikes.

2:5 If I had concern that a poor practice or unprofessional practice/conduct had impacted negatively on a child's outcome I would do the following. I would firstly away from the hearing of child explain to that carer my concerns about their behaviour or action. I would explain that I would have to pass on to my line manager as soon as practicable. I would document this again as soon as practicable and get signatures of any witnesses if possible. If I felt that my concern was not being delt with appropriately by my line Management I would then contact social services or refer to internal whistle blowing polices.

5:1 With polices , guidelines and legislation as referred in 1:2 and the equality*act 2006 this allows children and young people to have equality of opportunity .
They highlight that no person should experience discrimination or experience oppression as a result of their differences . Such as gender, age , race , culture or sexual orientation . We as care workers in my setting ensure that our children are not discriminated against due to their disability. We therefore encourage social inclusion and offer a normal and varied life experiences. We again in our work place are governed by equality and discrimination polices and are place in the office as a point of reference for all staff.

The impact that a change in Government Decisions will have on my business could be done through many ways, one of these is that it could change how customers of Apple act as they may need to follow certain laws such as taxes which would impact customer’s spending. Another way Apple can be impacted is that government would stop people of the country using certain technological services such as blocking of the internet and Wi-Fi, and this would then impact the sales of this in these countries. Lastly, another way Apple can be impacted by a government decision is that if government spending increases, then schools and colleges would look to spend this on improving the technology side of their institution and Apple products may be purchased for this. Apple will respond to the changes of customers and how they act by creating ways of increasing demand to make sure sales and profits levels remain, also an increase in prices and promotion would be needed for this. For Apple and reacting to government’s stopping technological services in certain countries would be to modify their services so that they are more user-friendly to these countries. To finish, Apple would respond to a change in government spending with increasing prices and supplies, as the demand of their products would have increased and would have to make sure they take advantage of these potential sales. This change will have a big impact on my business because they have the power to make big decisions which could have a huge impact on things like the customers of Apple which are the main reason of the amount of sales or profit Apple make, this means these decisions could determine whether Apple are successful.…

When looking at the curriculum you teach and how it is best to be taught, we must consider the principles of learning and by doing that you have to ask an important question, "why you learn"? During secondary school level and below, learning is compulsory. This is to equip the student with all the basic skills that they will need to use throughout their life. After sixteen, learning becomes optional. Those that choose to continue can select a pathway that will equip them for certain career routes or purely from a personal interest point of view. These two levels are very different, and must be approached by those delivering the learning with awareness of the altered factors. Hence why all curriculums need to different to meet the requirements of learners.…

At the end of March 2011, there were 65,520 looked-after children and young people in England and therefore many professionals are needed to keep up a good quality of care for every single child who is to be looked after. The health and wellbeing of looked-after children and young people (their physical health, social, educational and emotional wellbeing), comes from their quality of life and/or care. Some looked-after children and young people have positive experiences in the care system and gain good emotional and physical health, do well in their education and go on to have good jobs and careers but the start to this is from the arrangements made in order to receive good quality care.…
