Introduction

In this task I am going to be describing how the Internet operates and I will give eight examples of how it is used by selected contrasting organisations. I will start by defining the Internet and Worldwide Web.

Definition of Internet

The Internet is a computer network consisting of a worldwide network of computer networks. The Internet uses Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to make it easy for data transmission and exchange. Traditional communication media such as music, films, television and telephone are reformed or redefined by the Internet allowing to services to take place such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). Books and other printing publishing are adapting to websites technology or are reshaped into blogging and web feeds.

Definition of World Wide Web

World Wide Web is a collection of Internet websites that offer text, images, audio and animation resources through the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTP), using concepts from earlier hypertext systems, English engineer and computer scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee, now the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium, wrote a proposal in March 1989 for what would eventually become the World Wide Web.

Example of how selected organisations use Internet

Examples| Asda| NHS|
Buying| Asda use the Internet to purchase products from suppliers and also promote their products through the Internet| NHS have to purchase products such as drugs, equipment, etc…| Research| Asda use the Internet to check up on their competitors because if they miss an even they may taken over by another organisation | NHS uses the Internet to do research on cures for diseases and they also use the Internet for checking up on their competitors.| Selling| Asda sell products online to customers making it easy for them as they get it delivered to their house.
