Ever since kicking my first soccer ball during Kinder Kicks, soccer has become a fundamental aspect of my life. Not only have I been playing the sport since then, but the sport has also influenced me beyond solely playing it. It is the culture surrounding the game as well. It is waking up early every Saturday morning to watch the Liverpool game, or getting ready to cheer on the New England Revolution in Gillette Stadium in the evenings. Soccer has been embedded everywhere in my life, from the posters on my bedroom walls to the jerseys that continue to accumulate on my closet floor. This passion has driven me to share the sport with as many as I can. With the Natick Soccer Organization, I have been organizing tournaments for U10 and U14 boys…

For this first assignment, I chose to focus my outline on the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). I have a real passion for the sport of soccer and I also used to play this sport when I was little throughout my childhood. I feel that the sport of soccer is still growing here in the United States. I feel that the United States Soccer Federation as a whole has done a great job of implementing and competing with other sports in America. The reason for the increasing popularity of the sport in this country is the overall team aspect and limited physicality. Also, the barriers for entry into the sport are pretty low compared to other. Not much a participant needs other than a pair of cleats and a ball. Now, the USSF’s website does a good…
The essay “Football Envy at the UN” by Kofi Annan, proposes the idea that passion shown towards soccer during the World Cup should also be shown towards global issues. If people could only have the same fervency for human rights as they do for soccer who knows the impact it could have? This thought provoking idea is developed in Annan’s essay by comparing soccer’s intense competitiveness, teamwork, cross pollination and equality to the lack of with UN issues. In this easy read essay, Annan is able to effectively persuade the audience to agree with his opinion by organized comparisons, strong word choice, and appealing to the audience through a popular sport. However, Annan’s essay is flawed by the lack of evidence shown towards the negative side of soccer.…
Perception comes in many forms, identities, and cultures. The real problems arise when people are forced to seek similarities through the difference. My first impression of the freshmen soccer players during my sophomore year was just awful. They were just some punk kids coming up from the middle school to us. “They never really knew how to play,” we convinced ourselves. It seemed everyone was so much happier when we were the new kids on the field instead of those silly children. As soon as they stepped on the pitch, they oozed confidence. (Onomatopoeia) “Hey, do you want to be my super fan next year when I make varsity?” they chided. It seemed they fed off of each other’s energy as they playfully teased and prodded our egos. How would you feel if some kids started running circles around your already established team? (Rhetorical Question) You might have already assumed… We hated them. (Pronouns to address the audience)…
For the longest time, the United States of America have viewed soccer to be a 2nd class sport and not giving it the same attention as sports like football and baseball. Though, as the years have passed soccer has won over the hearts of the United States. Today the World Cup is the most popular in the United States than it has ever been, however, soccer has been receiving criticism because people believe the it is receiving media coverage that is doesn’t deserve. Soccer does deserve the media coverage that it’s getting because soccer teaches teamwork skills, requires more technique, and creates better connections between the countries who play, not to mention that soccer has a lower risk of serious injury.…
The purpose of this essay is to point out how technology will affect the game and what major differences it will bring. Gazing at a soccer pitch is like seeing Christmas morning all over again. The soft, gentle grass never seems out of place. The sharp lines outline the most enjoyable sport mankind has come to know. Goals sturdy and strong are set up across the sea of green, like two battleships holding a great battle. Soft nets hang in wait of soccer balls like a spider waiting to devour its prey. In the four corners are flags marking boundaries that cannot contain the excitement generated on it. In the midst of all this green is a huge circle that engulfs the middle of the pitch. The circle is perfectly rounded like the ball that is played on the beautiful pitch.…
