Sitting on my bed with my Acer notebook on my lap, I was looking through my family photos. I always did this when I started to miss the warmth and laughter at home. It had been a year since I made College Abdillah my second home. With no doubt, home was always my best refuge, but at college, my second home, I had experienced precious memories that I would never forget in this life. Everything started on the first day I stepped into college with curiousity and fearless spirit. My new life had begun.
As it was the first time I stayed in the hostel, I had no idea how to manage myself here. Luckily, the seniors were very caring and obliging. They lent me a hand when I needed them. They gave me advice and guidance so I could adapt my life here as soon as possible. With their help, I could settle down in a jiffy.
There were many ‘first times’ that I had made here. For instance, first time away from home alone for so long and first time having to queue up to take food in the Lestari Hall. My first time wearing batik to take bath made me feel weird too, but that was not the most challenging part. For your information, College Abdillah always had water problem. Thus, I had no choice but to take bath in the public shower room, with everyone almost naked. I was very shy. I did not know what I should do, so I just watched and learnt.
Besides, a special ‘first time’ happened to me on my first day in college. I could still remember that it was a Sunday evening. Before going to the night prep, there was a weekly roll call. Unfortunately, the school had black out that night. The dark corridor was crowded with people. Everyone was rubbing their shoulders with each other, talking about their weekends.
