UNDERSTAND LEADERSHIP STYLES

1.1 Describe the factors that will influence the choice of leadership styles or behaviours in workplace situations (24 marks)
There are several factors that will influence the choice of leadership styles and behaviours in workplace situations, some of the factors may develop naturally through ones personality and others are the product of the leaders environment. One factor is the leaders own personality as their leadership style becomes an extension of who they are. For example; leaders with dominating personalities are more likely to dominate their team rather than be part of said team. The level of control a leader wishes to maintain over their team also influences their leadership style, as some may delegate work to others, but others feel the need to be involved in every aspect of day to day work therefore increasing their workload and often not utilizing their team to the best of its ability. Another factor which can influence leadership style is the organizational structure and operating methods, as they may dictate the leadership style that the managers must adopt as their own. A leaders experience also affects their choice of leadership style because managers without a lot of experience may feel the need to lead ‘by the book’ as it where rather than use their own style for fear of making mistakes. Other factors that will affect choice of leadership styles or behaviours in workplace situations are new teams entering the workplace as this changes the dynamics of the already established teams,

Back in October of 2013, I toke this class and received a C+ now I’m taking it again, in 2013 under different circumstance I wasn’t prepared for this class, but this time around things are a little different. Now I am supposed to do a research depicting how different leadership theories apply to your chosen school setting. Things haven’t changed I’m choosing my school to write about while taking the course studies. Edith Robinson Christian Academy (ERCA) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida is a unique private school. (ERCA) proudly uses the slogan, “Love lives here.” In the simplest of terms, this is what Edith Robinson Christian Academy offers the at-risk-youth of Fort Lauderdale, Florida—children, teens, and young adults who may not often hear that they are valued, believed in, and loved. Driven by a philosophy that you can never give up on a child, Edith Robinson Christian Academy staff actively seeks out youth who have been thrown out of school, are unable to reach their full potential in a traditional school or are barred from other programs. This passionate organization helps them change their lives—and realize their full potential. I’m currently the owner but in 2013 I was the owner, Principal, teacher, cafeteria (cook), transportation, etc. whatever it took believe me I did it. Well this school year I have a staff; Principal, five teacher, two cafeteria worker, one security, two transportation driver, and myself the Director of Schools. The grade levels we deal with are from K though 12. In 2013 I we had to pick a leadership theory that best fits your program. I’m to pick a minimum of three different leadership article from Grand Canyon University elibrary. So this time around my position at the school hasn’t change, but I’m more so the true leader here and I have to have my staff understand the direction or vision I have for the…

Leadership can be best defined as beauty. One may say that is in the eye of the beholder. The best managers consistently allow different leaders to emerge and inspire their teammates. My prior organization, Comcast Corporation, a telecommunications provider, mission statement is to deliver a superior experience to their customers every day. Jason Biske, whom is Director of Sales and Operation, created an environment where Comcast is focused solely on customers by building relationships. When we would see him, he would always speak and ask how your day or sales was going. Jason was really big on keeping the sales floor informed of new promos or contests that were going on by sending constant email communications, ongoing training sessions, or holding focus groups on various processes of improvement in the sales process. When it came to leadership styles, Jason Biske demonstrated several. He embraced democratic, coaching, pacesetting, and authoritative. He initiated structure and created an environment that made you feel a part of something. Along with that he showed consideration. We felt like our opinions mattered and there was a concern for the employees. Leaders provide a sense of direction for the employees of the organization. Without this sense of direction (both strategic and ethical), the organization and its employees could easily lose their direction. In order for any leader to be successful all styles need to be incorporated. Leaders, therefore, are given the responsibility of creating and shaping culture.…

As my first GOLD workshop, I not only learned important aspects of the program but also focused on various leadership concepts and what qualities we associate with leaders. We were asked to identify a leader in our lives and the characteristics they display and after comparing them to others, I found that we all associate similar qualities in those we view as leaders—from thoughtful and understanding to confident and a good listener, our ideas of a leader were mutual. We also went over a worksheet titled “Thoughts on Leadership,” which was extremely helpful. I learned to not only open my mind to the ideas of others but to also identify with what I believe a true leader is. Reading over the different myths about leadership allowed me to truly understand the moral concepts of leadership and how to recognize the difference between good and bad leadership.…

In this particular case, it’s an issue that is a common occurrence in higher institution that test many administrators and their leadership ability.
