Physiological psychology
Sometimes referred to as biological psychology or biopsychological psychology,   physiological psychology is the discipline of psychology that commonly uses an empirical (observational)approach to study the relationship between neural mechanisms of the brain of a human and his or her behavior (Carlson, 2010). Physiological Psychologist study brain mechanism regarding the functioning of brain cells that makes up the structure of the brain and its components that produces chemicals that dictate how and individual behaves. Behavior in this case does not mean how an individual acts but also how that individuals learn.
Historical figures of physiological psychology and contributions
The evolution of a biological psychology is first evidenced   as a trend founded by the Greek physician Hippocrates, who lived c. 460-c. 360 B.C.E. (Alloy et al., 2005, p. 14). Hippocrates proposed that mental illness was the result of natural cause and not as punishment by a higher being previously thought by a heavily superstitious society. He came to this hypothesis by going a step further than practitioners before him by being a neutral observer and recorder in sufferers of epilepsy and phobias (Alloy et al., 2005, pg. 28). Hippocrates research gave way to advancement biological discoveries. Hippocrates believed that many disorders were result of an imbalance of vital fluids in the body, such as nutrients and chemicals in the blood. (Alloy et al., 2005, pg. 14).
