Underpaid and Overplayed Professional athletes are so highly looked up to and are put on such a high pedestal for everyone to see. They are treated like they are gods, they are paid a lot of money to go out and play the sport they are good at. The highest average pay for a Pro athlete is about $7.1 million a year, and the lowest average pay is about $2.6 million a year. Then there are the Soldiers that are risking their lives for our Country and to keep our people and Country safe. The soldiers that are overseas fighting for our country, they sacrifice so much of themselves and their families just to do one thing. The highest average for an Active Duty military member is about $100,000 a year, and the lowest average pay is about $29,000 a year.
Why is it that our country thinks that professional athletes should receive a higher pay? Our country has its priorities all mixed up, this is because the people of our country think that the athletes they watch on TV and at games should be getting paid better. People are saying because they are getting hurt, that its hazard pay, it’s too dangerous, and that they need to get paid to compensate for it. Why is that athletes are getting paid their six figures a year, and our soldiers are out risking their lives so that all the people can be safe and free, while getting paid at a max of maybe $90,000 a year.
There are definitely people more deserving of high salaries than a professional athlete. The president of the United States, who has one of the toughest jobs in the nation, makes nowhere near as much as an athlete. Barack Obama makes around $400,000 a year while Alex Rodriguez makes around $33 million a year. Another job that affects the lives of almost every American is the job of a school teacher. School teachers are very deserving of high pay and yet the average income of a high school teacher is only $43,437. That is only a mere fraction of what some of

Are professional athletes being paid too much? According to Charles Ray, athletes are making a lot more then they should be. Some players are making more then a brain surgeon would, yet the athletes don’t have to go through the pressure of saving lives. The money they’re getting paid could most definitely go to a different cause, instead of paying excessive amounts to hit a ball or shoot a basket.…

Professional athletes have nothing but family and their sport to worry about. They don't have to worry about school work or anything else from college life ,because professional sports are their everyday job. Everything is much more fast-paced and much more difficult because there are so many great athletes with many of the same goals and mentalities. In professional sports most athletes have a drive to get better, whether it is for their family, their hometown, or even themselves. Other professional athletes may have a drive to get better just because of the money they get payed for doing it. The salary varies drastically from each sport. There are five major professional teams in the United States these include: basketball(NBA), baseball(MLB), football(NFL), soccer(MLS), and hockey(NHL). NBA stands for “National Basketball Association”, MLB stands for “Major League Baseball”, NFL stands for “National Football League”, MLS stands for “Major League Soccer”, and NHL stands for “National Hockey League.” The NBA has the best yearly salary with an average of $5.15 million and the average career lasts 4.8 years so they earn $24.7 million in their career. MLB players earn an average of $3.2 million a year with their careers lasting 5.6 years on average so they earn around $17.9 million in their careers. NHL players average $2.4 million a year with their careers lasting 5.5 years earning…

    Why Athletes Be Paid

This happens for the fact that, again, the people in this country tend to care about having fun rather than anything else. Another reason as to why the amount of money that athletes receive is ludicrous is that, “...retired athletes can go on to have lucrative jobs,” (Edelman 24). Being involved in lucrative jobs means always making tons of money, and more than almost everyone else. “...there are plenty of people who have difficult and dangerous jobs, and no one is handing them exorbitant amounts of money,” (Edelman 24). As to why people do not pay people who work strenuously becomes lost upon the vast majority of people, but I believe that it is for the fact that no one actually cares about them. All in all, the fact that people who gallop around all day, and still acquire millions of dollars, is a truly disturbing truth that burdens us…

Does $5.15 million per year sound like a lot? Yes, this is an average NBA basketball players annually wage. This may sound like a lot of money but many people say the military should make this much too. This is not possible. Our military gets paid from tax income of the country. The United States gets $3.7 trillion in income tax. If you divided that among all the soldiers and pay them what pros get paid, this is how much it would be. It would be 7.8063324e+12, that's a lot. My main three reasons for thinking pros should get paid more than soldiers are not enough money, just as much training, and they get paid from different sources. Athletes get paid from millions of fans ,and military gets paid from the United States defense budget.…

Football players make more money than soldiers do, they get thousands of dollars every game, hit, touchdown, or kick-off of each season. The Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback, Matt Ryan, gets paid $11,500,000 just as a base salary, while the highest ranking Officer, O-10*, gets paid $20220.07 each year after serving for a little less than 38 years. This means that the average athletic player receives about $11,479,779.93 more than the highest ranking officer in the army does. How could this possibly be fair to soldiers? Armed forces, that fight to protect our country, are getting…

The sport industry is one of the largest industries in the United States, meaning it brings in the most revenue. But, aren’t the players actually the ones bringing the money in? The spectators are paying a big amount of money for their tickets and not to mention paying even more on foods, drinks and sporting attire. Since athletes are bringing in almost $11 billion a year, it is only fair to pay them. Being a part of such a large industry, people expect athletes to perform as professional athletes do. High expectations mean athletes have to be committed and willing to put in the long time consuming hours and hard work. This is an all day everyday commitment that leaves you with no free time or anytime at all to go out and get a job so that you can support yourself. People say it is only fair that college athletes get paid so that they can make a living and support their self.…

I believe that athletes do not deserve a large salary and endorsement. The reason being is that many professionals who risk their lives to save others receive a 100th of an athlete’s salary and endorsement. In contrast, a nurse in Toronto makes an average salary of $70,000 a year; the President of the United States only receives a salary of $400,000 a year, while athletes make millions of dollars in 6 months. According to Sports Illustrated magazine Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees has a contract guaranteeing him $252 million over a ten-year term.…

when we ask the question, "are professional athletes overpaid?” it requires us to focus on the industry of professional sports as a whole. The minimum salary of major league athletes ranges from $100,000-$300,000 per year. In the NBA, the average salary is in the ballpark of $5,000,000 a year according to overpaidathletes.net. In my opinion it is a lot just for playing a sport. Professional athletes are making too much money in a society where salaries and wages are traditionally based on the value of one's work. In today's society, one should be paid according to the job’s economic importance and their value to society. Even our president Barack Obama only makes 400,000 dollars a year compared to tiger woods who makes 110 million dollars a year.…

Personally if I was playing in the big leagues I would love to make tens of millions of dollars myself. But I do not think they deserve such high compensation. Simply, for the fact that they do not do anything, that will help the community or save others. Although they do provide us with entertainment I feel the people that should be making tens of millions of dollars should be the people whom are saving others. The money given to the athletes could be used for more probable causes. This is enough money to feed the nation's poor for a year or to provide a lot more housing and shelters for the homeless. Others could benefit from the millions being wasted on these athletes. Many athletes raise and donate money to charity. The United Way has become one of the largest charities due to the publicity and donations given by these athletes. Many of these athletes are not frugal with their money. They help our economy by spending excessive amounts of money. The public needs to realize that without the sky-high spending, the economy would not function as well as it does now. In closing, these athletes are making too much money in a society that traditionally bases salaries on the value of ones work. These athletes do not know what real work is or how hard it is to make a dollar. Although their job is difficult, they do not play a role in our economy…
