Savannah Penatzer English 112 Professor Berry March 3, 2011 To Use Social Networking Sites or Not to Use them. Over the past several years, social networking sites have advanced all over the world to accommodate people’s needs. Randy Dryer, the author of “Advertising Your Clients (and You!) In the New World of Social Media: What Every Lawyer Should Know About Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, & Wikis” had stated, “By March of 2010, there were 200 million blogs worldwide, 450 million people on Facebook, 27 million tweets every 24 hours, and 1.2 billion YouTube views each day.” This shows that everyone around the world is using social networking sites and they are becoming a new form of communication, though not everyone is using it for communication reasons but use it for blogging, to keep up with news, and develop relationships to discuss things. Even though twitter and other network sites can help bloggers and journalist help express their thoughts on a worldwide website where millions of people can follow them, the negative impacts of using twitter greatly affect someone, a company, and maybe even a country by creating a threat. Social networking sites have not always existed; actually, these sites have just started to be established in the past few years. Twitter was invented in January of 2006, Facebook was established in February 4, 2004, YouTube was established in February of 2005, and MySpace was made in January of 2003. Each site is used differently but

mainly have one reason for it, to communicate. Communication is a very much-needed necessity because with out communication you would not know what is going on around the world, it helps transfer information across the world in a blink of an eye or communicate with family and friends oversea. When people communicate across the world, it is not always for good reasons. Being that communication has enhanced, terriost’s ability to carry out threats is now easier to obtain.
