Trump Needs a New Hobby

If Donald Trump and the Birther Movement had any self-respect or dignity they would drop the intense background check on President Barack Obama. The president released his long-form birth certificate on April 27 in order to quell the ridiculous rumors among ultra-conservatives that he is a Kenyan Muslim (never mind the fact that Kenya is a predominantly Christian nation). Instead of being silenced, Trump and the birthers have merely moved on to dig up new non-controversies.

In a press conference following the release, Trump admitted he was “proud” of his role in getting the long-form birth certificate released. He should be ashamed of himself. But instead he has already moved on to questioning the president’s college record. “I don’t know why he doesn’t release his records,” Trump said. “The word is, he wasn’t a good student and he ended up getting into Columbia and Harvard. I’d like to know: How does he get into Harvard, how does he get into Columbia if he isn’t a good student?” Others have now jumped on this bandwagon. Marco Ciavolino, a lieutenant colonel who was briefly jailed after he refused to deploy to Afghanistan because he doubted Obama’s birthright, has demanded the president release his passport records, college financial statements, his law license and the marriage and divorce records of Obama’s parents.

The Queen of the Birthers, Orly Taitz, said Obama is using a fake Social Security number.

Others keep playing the same broken record, questioning the validity of this newly released birth certificate. Philip Berg, a lawyer, said “I’m not sure that this document hasn’t been altered.” These are people grasping at straws after reality has slapped them across the face. Nonetheless, 15 percent of Americans said Obama is probably foreign born plus another nine percent think he is definitely a foreigner in a recent USA Today/Gallup poll.
