Settings
Hurtgen Forest- It is near at German-Belgian boarder where there is a mother and her son. They lived in a little cottage.
Aachen- It is the hometown of the mother that partly destroyed by allied bombers.
Heidelberg- Where one of the German soldiers studied before he become soldier.
Characters
Mother- The main character of the story, she knows how to speak French. She is hospitable because she is the one who let the American and German soldiers to have a dinner before Christmas in her cottage.
Fritz- A twelve years old boy who help his mother on preparing the dinner on the soldiers. He also the one that waits for his father to come back before Christmas.
Hermann- Plump rooster that they had been fattening for weeks for Christmas.
American Soldiers
Jim- A stocky dark-haired American soldier and he is also good in French. He is the one who knocks in the door of the cottage for help.
Robin- A tall and slender American soldier.
Harry- The wounded soldier who needs help.
German Soldiers
Corporal- A twenty-three year old leader of the German soldiers.
Hanz- A sixteen year old German soldier.
Willi- A sixteen year old German soldier.
Heinz- One of the four German soldier.
Summary
It was Christmas Eve when 3 Americans knocked in the cottage of a mother and her son. The mother took them in and healed Harry- the wounded one, and cooked for them. Just as they were setting the table, there came another knock. The son was familiar of the uniforms the men were wearing, they were German who was lost and will stay then continue their trip at daylight. The mother will take them in and will be served with a hot meal with a one condition, and that is to not kill each other inside. She ordered everyone to hand out their weapons. While the
