Based on the testimony of one witness, Max Elitcher, and evidence regarding his flight to Mexico, Sobell was convicted. On the advice of his attorney, who felt that the trip to Mexico would be difficult to explain, Sobell declined to testify at the trial. Because he was not accused of conspiring to disclose secrets regarding the atomic bomb, he was spared the death penalty and instead sentenced to thirty years in prison. After the Rosenbergs were executed, many involved in the campaign towin them clemency initiated an effort to clear Morton Sobell and have him released from prison. Although he was not exonerated, Sobell was released in January 1969 after serving more than seventeen years of his sentence.…

As a conquistador under the command of Hernán Cortes, Bernal Diaz witnessed some of Latin America’s most interesting and least chronicled history. He was fortunate enough to be one of a select few Europeans to experience the Aztec empire at its height and to visit Tenochtitlan prior to its downfall. In an era where personal accounts of the historical occurrences are almost nonexistent, Bernal Diaz’s The True History of the Conquest of New Spain provides virtually the only window into this period. As a result, his text has become the most significant historical document concerning the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Perhaps the most poignant excerpt from The True History of the Conquest of New Spain is Diaz’s detailed description of his first impressions of the Aztec capital and emperor Montezuma.…

Mexico is a place full of cactus rather than trees and bushes. The grass is not as visible as much as the sand is. Homes are built out of concrete and big grey blocks with simple shapes rather than elegant red bricks with fine smooth walls. Though through its humble looks and people, Mexico is quite a festival each night. Mexico is a place that inspires me because of the beautiful sights, delicious taste, and the pleasant auditory.…

The Historic Centre of Mexico City (hereafter referred as HCMC) is the biggest in Latin America. The city was founded in 1521 after the Spanish conquest. It was built over the ruins of the Aztec Empire (1325-1521), which was grounded on the lake Texcoco (UNESCO-WHC, 2014). The HCMC combines elements of pre-colonial, colonial and modern period. Currently, the area includes more than 1,600 monuments and historical buildings; this means the biggest concentration of architectural patrimony in Latin America (Mantecón, 2003 in Crossa, 2009). It includes the central plaza (the Zocalo), La Alameda Central, the Cathedral, the Palace of Fine Arts, and the National Palace (UNESCO-WHC, 2014) [Appendix 01]. In 1987, UNESCO listed in the World Heritage Sites…
