Since Jagdishchandra Bose Discovered that trees have life, we have realized their vital role in our life. They are a blessing in disguise. They serve the mankind in different ways. They purify air. They maintain balance of gases in air. Thus they control air-pollution. They make starch from carbon. It is a part of our diet. They attract rain. It is very important for our agriculture. Their roots hold the soil together. They prevent soil-erosion. Thus they maintain the fertility of land. Each part of the tree-roots, stems, leaves, flowers fruits – is used in our food. Trees give us drugs. They keep is healthy. Besides, they give us gum, rubber, oil etc. These materials are very useful to us. They give us not only fire-wood but also timber. We use fire-wood as fuel. They give shade and shelter to animals, birds and insects. To acknowledge their contributions we celebrate Van Mahotsav. Cruel persons cut down trees mercilessly on a large scale. The cruel slaughter of trees will result into our destruction. Deserts will expand. Rivers will dry up. There will be shortage of water. Land will become barren. The Balance in nature will be upset. With a view to preventing this illegal and inhuman act, every citizen must stand by the government. We must save trees, our valuable and benevolent friends since our existence depends on them. Everyone should plant one tree. The only solution of the environmental problems is the protection of trees.
