The Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurobehavioral disorder that is very common in the children and usually who has it when a child brings it to his adulthood. Plenty of the symptoms that a person with ADHD has sometimes are faced by people without the disorder but the difference is that someone with the disorder will have it consistently and will present the symptoms at least for six months before being surely diagnosed with it. Some of these common symptoms are: difficult to pay attention on a given task, easy distractions, difficult to stay seated, have a hard time when waiting for something or taking turns, and act as if driven by a motor. But ADHD is a disorder that can usually be controlled and lead the child or the adult to a normalized life. To achieve this normal life the person need to be treated properly and be regularly observed by the doctor to manage and sometimes improve the response to the treatment. There are more than one type of treatment for ADHD but the most effectives are the medical treatment, the behavior modification treatment and the combination of both, which end up showing the better responses to the disorder.
The treatment based on medication is the most common and most pursued by the adults who have ADHD and by the parents of children with ADHD. The medication can be either a stimulant or a non-stimulant based medicine. The stimulant based medicines are proven to bring short-term and almost immediate results, according to “American Academy” if a particular stimulant does not work around 80% of children will have a better response to another kind of stimulant if they keep trying in a systematic way (2001).
