Transformers Hero Quest
“Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed. It is all part of the fairy tale.” --Peter S. Beagle. This statement can tell us a lot about heroes. It means that no matter what you have to do and no matter who you are, we all must find the strength inside of us to become a hero when it is our time. The movie Transformers fits the definition of mythology by administering lots of it’s qualities. The movie teaches us how we should act if we are ever put into a situation that calls for us to act as a hero. Now a days people enjoy a great movie! Movies have become one of the biggest ways for our culture to show it’s most important literature. In the movie Transformers Sam Witwicky is just an average teenage boy, until one day he buys an extraordinary car. He shows us how sometimes when we are faced with a challenge we must search deep inside ourselves and find our values and live them out on our journey. This story connects to The Iliad in multiple ways. But it also has contradictions. For instance, Achilles is a strong and fearless warrior and Sam Witwicky is just an average, everyday run of the mill teenager. He does not know that his great grandfather Archibald Witwicky made one of the world’s greatest discoveries, until the Autobots find him and tell him that the fate of the world lies in his hands. Achilles and Sam Witwicky are very different, yet at the same time they share many qualities. They both know what they must do to save/protect their world/kingdom. But they also know that they will face many challenges ahead. Achilles will always have a great rivale with Agamemnon and the Greeks like Sam Witwicky will with Megatron and the Decepticons. There are also some differences that these two heroes have. Achilles has quite a temper and is also very prideful. Sam Witwicky is sweet and caring, and along his journey he becomes a leader.
