How does the operation management system works?
Operation Management System (OMS) which is provided by Mitsubishi Heavy industries is a software which is been operated in Operation control center (OCC). It is the main heart of the entire monitoring system where all the activities are been monitored and implemented it as per the commands given. It also automatically sets routes and controls the trains as the train diagrams received from traffic planning department. If case there is a delay of a train, it continues to recommend the best route and controls based on train diagrams accepted. OMS is been divided in 3 major category that is Tracking of the trains, train route control and sequence assessment.
OMS communicates with all the departments and also sends the information of the trains to the required departments. We shall discuss how it is benefited.
1. Operation Information systems for staff
Such Operation information systems for staff is located in every station and provides the station, train and maintenance staff with the required information regarding train status and the latest train diagrams in real time. All such information of the trains and its status updates is been provide by OMS to the OIP. It also provides support for maintenance workers for creating their schedules and performs their job safely.
2. Traffic Planning department
It creates train routes based on the traffic plan prepared and sends to the OMS, whereas the plan is been implemented by the OMS and send back the actual diagrams of the train routes which is been implemented with their timings and other such information. This would help the planners to have the actual data and optimize their work with better results and proper planning.
3. Operation information system for passenger
Operation information system for passenger retrieves the actual train diagrams from the OMS and provides the passenger with the accurate information which are been displayed at the LED screens or thou announcement. Schedule of Departures and arrivals of the trains are been provided.
4. Power supply and infrastructure department
OMS also communicates with the power supply department (PDS) if there are any interruptions in the power or any power failures. This information is also very critical as it could cause delay in the operation of the train. OMS also confirms if there is no infrastructure disturbance while the operation of the trains.
5. Maintenance team work support.
The maintenance team need to request to OMS for the maintenance work, location, start time and end time of the work to be performed. The OMS will make sure that during the approved working time for the maintenance work, there would be no trains traveling at the targeted location and also inform the same to the PSD and infrastructure team to turn of the power for the location mentioned. Upon approval of the request of the maintenance team work the OMS informs all the departments about the maintenance work performed and make sure while the work is done it is checked by the infrastructure department weather the site is clear.
6. Driver only and Driverless operations
It also supports driver-only and driverless operation by linking the OMS with platform gates and Automatic Train Operation (ATO) systems. That is when the train is running in manual mode, by informing the OMS it can also be shifted to Automatic mode.
A part of all the above mention activities there is also training system setup for the new staffs and existing staffs. As the system is very critical the operators are given timely refreshment classes so that they are totally aware of all the functions of the system.
The advantages implementations of OMS
• Automatic record keeping of train operations and events • It generates time-distance graph for trains which can be used to control and plan...
