Traffic congestion CHETHAN KUMAR VENKATESH (@02659270), DEEPAK N, ANUSH J Traffic has been growing at a tremendous pace over the years, and is not expected to slow down in the future. It is estimated that congestion causes 4 billion hours of travel delays a year. Traffic congestion is a major problem through out the world today not only in the developed countries but also in the all the developing countries. Traffic congestion is one of the major problems that we are facing today. It is due to many reasons but one of the main reasons is the growing international trade and business across the borders. In today’s business scenario transportation is one of the main agendas of any business as the goal is to reach and serve customers in every corner of the world; this will certainly increase traffic around the globe. All though it is very important to increase free movement of goods and services around the world we need to understand that the more the movement of goods the more the traffic, which is also becoming a major hindrance to growth. Some of the steps that we can take to improve the condition of the roads are if the distance is long different modes of transport can be used to facilitate the movement of goods like rail, sea or through air transport. One more important aspect that we need to notice is that the fuel prices are growing at a very rapid pace due to the very high demand, often these prices are paid by the final consumers. So it very important for us to develop better technologies and reduce these costs. In many countries the rail network is very much fragmented and limited; this will certainly increase more pressure on the roads and increase traffic. So a good rail network is very much important for transportation. MNC’s around the globe employ million’s of people and all these people need some or the other kind of transport to travel to work, one of the solution is to provide good public transport system so as to encourage people to reduce using...
