After more than a decade of spectacular growth, Tourism has played an important role in the development of Cambodia. It has brought employment, improvements in infrastructure, training and general education and living standards for many people, and raised the international profile of Cambodia. Its growth has helped diversify economic activity, and broaden the base of foreign earnings.

Tourism statistics of Cambodia
In recent years, the question of how to increase the yield from each tourist; how to encourage them to stay longer; how to add more value? With visitor numbers expected to fall, this has assumed a greater priority, and now is trying to keep the numbers up.

From Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism, Statistics and ICT Department reported earlier this week, the first statistics shows, that international arrivals for the first quarter of 2010 year grew 13.9% from 683,692 to 778,467 trips. National Tourism Organization
1. Identify the key function and roles of the national tourism board of this country.
The key function and roles of the BTO is that they execute policies and strategies on tourism planning and development. The NTB encourages investments in tourism on the basis of development strategies of the nation; plan and administer the tourism industry; guide and supervise all types of tourism services; direct, control and maintain natural resorts, man-made resorts, tourist centers, and tourist development regions throughout the country. They issue licenses for vocational training schools. They promote and market Cambodian tourism internally and internationally; monitor tourism publications and information and procuring corrections where necessary; The NTB is responsible for implementing contracts related to tourism projects when the Royal Government of Cambodia set guidelines; issuing operating licenses to tourism services. Grading of hotels and restaurants and regular inspection of the tourism domain are also under the responsibility of NTB. Foreign representative offices were set up in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to establish, improve and maintain standards and quality of the tourism industry and services.

2. What are the goals objectives and target for the destination?

The Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia’s objectives is to lead and administer the tourism field of the Kingdom of Cambodia to international level. Key focus areas of the NTO:
Arrivals – the strategy will direct the achievement of increased numbers of tourists to Cambodia by working towards increasing the number of foreign tourist arrivals to 15 million in 2020.

b) Job creation – the tourism sector is committed to consolidating its efforts to create jobs and they aim to create 225 000 jobs by 2020.
