BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Corregidor Island is a small rocky tadpole-shaped island which is about 48 kilometers west of Manila and strategically located at the entrance of Manila bay. The name of the Island was derived from the Spanish word “Corregir” which means “to correct”- that’s why all ships that sailed into the Philippine capital Manila have to pass through Corregidor for the required check and correction of papers, Also known as "the Rock," it was a key bastion of the Allies during the world war II. When the Japanese invaded the Philippines in December 1941, the military force under the command of Gen. Douglas MacArthur carried out a delaying action in Bataan.
Tourism and traveling have become a part of one’s lifestyle. Tourist visits Corregidor for leisure and recreation, availing travel and tourism services. Aside from taxes levied from tourism businesses, governments encourage tourism because the resulting economic growth generates employment. However, advertising and promotion is needed for the development of tourism.
Tourism advertising is an increasingly important part of the tourism industry, Information regarding locations and activities associated with tourism is provided to tourists through different media. As an interesting form of print media is the tourist brochure, typically a small-sized leaflet containing information about a particular place. brochures often attempt to include a wealth of information within limited space, using both language and images for this purpose. And also flyers, a single sheet of paper, usually 8 ½ x 11 in size, used to give information to a large number of people inexpensively. Flyers are popular for small-scale advertising.
The study was a critical analysis of tourism flyers of five travel agencies offering tour services in Corregidor Island.
Statement of the Problem
The study aimed to criticize the tourism flyers of the five travel agencies on Corregidor Island and tour services offered by them. Specifically, it intended to answer the following questions:
1) What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:
2) How are the travel agencies similar and different in terms of:
o Ownership of travel agency
o Type of tours offered
o Cost of tour per pax
3) What are the strengths and weaknesses of the flyers being studied?
Significance of the Study
The study will helps them to understand tourism flyers of different travel agencies offering Corregidor Island tour packages. It will serve as guide in the study of marketing for hospitality and tourism, as the study embraces concepts from the said subjects.
The study hopes to serve as an additional reference to future researchers, especially for those who wish to study Corregidor Island.
The study aims to brings a trend that will further increase tourism demand, not just in Corregidor Island but also in to other similar tourist destinations.
This study will help them to know the things that they need to improve in their tourism flyers and tour services.
Scope and Limitation
The study was limited to five travel agencies whose tourism flyers on Corregidor Island tour packages were subjected for evaluation. Two hundred college students of La Consolacion College Manila-Biñan Campus were the responded of the study.
