Background of the Study
The Philippines, is being one of the top most visited tourist spots in Southeast Asia, is undergoing a “black” phase in tourism industry after the bloodbath hostage crisis at Quirino Grand Stand, Manila last Monday also admitted the tourism sector of Bohol had been affected by the hostage-taking at Quirino Grandstand and the recent Japan earthquake. Moreover, the implementation of the last round of wage increase was barely one-year old . Local businessmen took note on the statement of Ernesto Carreon, one of the labor representatives to the wage board, expressing optimism that by end of September this year, a new wage order might be out.
The BCCI plans to formally ask RTWPB-7 to dissect the advantages and disadvantages of another wage hike to be able to thoroughly assess its impact to both the investors and the labor sector.
The BCCI recently convened to tackle the situation now that the RTWPB in Central Visayas already declared that the supervening conditions existed, which means the wage board can now entertain the two across-the-board wage hike petitions filed by Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) and the Alliance of Progressive Labor. ALU-TUCP bats for P100 a day, while APL asked for a P120.
She said the RTWPB-7 resolution would still be forwarded to the national wage board, then the schedule of the deliberation would be set. Also, it is not yet certain as to how much will the wage increase be. 1.) The hostage taking started 7am today, August 23, 2010
