3.Backpacking

What is backpacking?

A backpacker is a person that travels with everything he/she needs in one backpack and most of the time walks to discover the environment while doing all sorts of activities. They spend nights in backpackers hostels where they share rooms with 4-6 other people. There is one kitchen that is shared by all the guests.

Four reasons why tourists backpack:

· Backpacking is a low cost travel. Backpackers often travel to a lot of places and they budget their amount of money used for travel.
· Because they need to cut loose from their everyday life. Travelling on your own lets you literally leave everything behind (stress etc.) and gives you time to rethink your circumstances or future.
· It helps you become comfortable dealing with the unfamiliar (other cultures etc.). You learn to adapt in unfamiliar situations and surroundings.
· Some people go backpacking because they want to learn new things and experience a different lifestyle. Some go because they want to bring home a whole new perspective of life.

Fernweh n.: an ache for distant places; the craving for travel (origin German). People all around the world go on insane journeys. They put their lives in danger, but for what reason? As humans, it’s natural for us to have expectations, the desire to gain things when we put in the effort to complete them. So what’s the big deal? Why leave the comforts of modern civilization for the unknown? Many would respond with the following: to find their true selves, connect with nature, challenge their abilities, and for the pleasure or adrenaline rush.…

For younger people, it can be hard to travel because of money issues or not being able to get away from school and vacations from work. Men and women who are retired aside of having money saved up throughout the years are getting checks from their social security benefits. Individuals who explore new places can meet people from different parts of the world. If they like the place they would be able to stay for as long as they want because they will not have to worry about returning to work on a specific day. Retired people might want to explore Mexico or another place that can be expensive like China. Having to not worry about a job anymore and still receiving money can be great if one is still in shape of being able to walk, see, or take care of themselves. Essentially if an old person wants to visit someone instead of just sitting at home, it would be great if they did not have to count on anybody to take them because they can do it themselves. Seeing family that one has not seen in years can affect a person’s mood, but it can also bring happiness. New places that one explores can make an individual want to return soon and will offer them deals that will make them think about even moving out there. As retired individuals see their advantage of being able to travel, they will run into better benefits that they would rather have close to there…

Another of the reasons why people travel is for business purposes. Many people especially executives and businessman have to travel daily, weekly, or monthly to conduct business. This is a big part of travel especially with international companies that have multiple divisions. Some people tend to travel to explore in the name of science. Since there are still places in the world that have not been explored or may hold interest, scientist travel or hire someone to explore these uncharted areas. One of the last reasons that I’ll list as a reason why people travel is for religious reasons. There are many different places in the world like Israel or The Vatican that hold religious meaning to many people in the world. The first benefit of backpacker tourism in poor countries is to promote environmental protection and cultural preservation (Mozer, 2010). While other tourism leads local enterprises to destroy local natural resources, for example, flattening mountains, cutting down forests, and digging up beaches which eliminate coral reefs, to establish modern tourism complex, backpacker tourism focuses more on the beauty of original natural resources (Pleumarom, n.d.). Thus, most backpackers are interested in sustaining the local environment and preserving local natural resources. For example, in 2009, there were Dutch backpackers who became…
