Disadvantages of tourism.

Tourism opened great opportunities, but as well it can cause a lot disadvantages and problems either for hosts or tourists. The problems always arise from cultural myopia, because we cannot reduce it sometimes. People from different cultures have a lot, which is far away from common to others. A good case is “Inshallah”, when the person from America came to Arab country, they have the most different perception of life, the way to have business deals. So, when there were something wrong Arab people just said “Inshallah”, which means “Let it be how God will decide”. It is about Self-Reference Criteria. We perceive other nations, not like they do it toward their nation. So, it causes real conflict between nations, cultures.
The second aspect is about environmental pollution. This problem also arise from the first one, if in our country it is quite normal to litter in the streets, in European countries it is ridiculous. Tourists often came to other countries to have crazy holidays, doing things they will never do in their countries. From my own opinion I saw lots of British people, who came to Thailand and behave like “pigs”, litter in the streets, and disrespectful attitude to women. Will they behave such way in Great Britain? No, exactly no. In fact, countries, especially islands are suffering from this problem. Overcrowded areas, littered environment- these all awake the third problem.
The third is about irritation index, on what niche are hosts in tourism infrastructure. Are they just seducers or fully members of their society? The case about Hawaii, when locals became just people for entertainment (dancers, singers). They even must speak only English, to seduce Americans, in fact to live not in their own culture. Of course it caused an antagonism toward tourists.
I think to reduce all these problems is the job of mediators, I mean TA’s, who before pushing and pulling customers to the destination, should give clear... [continues]
