“Have you ever wondered what marks our time here? If one life can really make an impact on the world? Or If the choices we make matter? I believe they do. And I believe that one man can change many lives… for better or for worse.” These words by Chad Michael Murray led me to think of a man who has made a huge impact on the world.

In 2006 a young man went to visit Argentina. While he was there he saw extreme poverty and heath conditions. The thing he noticed the most was the amount of children walking around with no shoes on. He said, “I was instantly struck with the desire and the responsibility to do more.”

This man is Blake Mycoskie. After his trip to Argentina he had one main goal: to show how together, we can create a better tomorrow by taking compassionate action today. He created Toms shoes. This company offers something that most do not. His slogan for Toms is One For One. With each pair of shoes purchased from Toms, one is given to a child in need all around the world.

Within a year, Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family and friends to hand-place brand new shoes on the children in need. Since the company has grown, over one million pairs of shoes have been given to children in need. Shoes are now given to children in over 20 countries.

Toms and Blake Mycoskie has been honored with many awards. Such as the People’s Design Award from the Smithsonian Institution and the Award for Corporate Excellence presented by Hillary Clinton.

Aside from creating Toms shoes, Blake is a speaker at campuses and conferences around the world. He inspires young people to help make a better tomorrow. He encourages them to include giving in everything they do. “I hope to see a future full of socially minded businesses and consumers,” said Blake.

He inspired a group of college students to start a campaign called One Day Without Shoes. It is a day in April where people are asked to walk around with no shoes on to help raise awareness. This is how I...
