Outline

Thesis: Beauty contests are an insult to women and do not secure any purpose for society.

I. Psychological Problems

a) Many women would get paranoia, anxiety, and low – esteem and have feelings for inferiority.

b) It would effect the competition on such young girls

c) They would be caught in between two awful extremes (losing or winning), feeling like an ugly loser.

II. Competing in pageants often detracts from family life, and leaves little time for young girls to simply act their age. a) A pageant such as these divides from family time, financial cost and also frequent absences from home/ family favoring over siblings.

b) When time is invested in pageants, practicing means little time to rest.

II. The objectification and sexualism of such young girls in highly inappropriate. It works to degrade the female gender and even places them in depression.

a) Many young girls would wear sexual outfits/ routines that may be inappropriate for their age.

b) It also degrades both these girls and women

c) Beauty pageants can cause danger of pedophiles.

IV. Child beauty pageants should be deemed illegal

a) They objectify the children in an attempt to achieve an unclear vision of beauty.

b) The children may come to look at themselves in a negative way if they do not win the pageant. This will affect their view of themselves drastically.

c) Many parents these days do it because they want to, not because it’s what their children want.

V. Beauty pageant history

a) Beauty pageants were found in the 1920's for adults, and the 1960's for children.

b) Beauty pageants originated as a marketing tool in 1921 by an Atlantic City hotel owner who wanted the city's tourists to remain in town longer.
