I therefore place the remaining years of my life in your hands (Nelson Mandela, 1990).” These words extracted from the speech given at the release of Nelson Mandela, are not just words of inspiration for us as South Africans, but also illustrate the achievements that are possible by facing opportunities and challenges in a proactive rather than reactive manner. As South Africans, we have the firsthand experience of being proactive in aspects such as politics, however, when it comes to business, various excuses such as lack of resources and education are used to explain why we lag behind. The following report has been prepared to evaluate a small company operating in the South African Banking environment and their level of pro-activity by analysing aspects such as the structure and culture of this organization.
