The main purpose in Carr writing this essay is to expose the small amount of diversity involved with the magazine industry, which has always been somewhat low however he believes that as time goes on it is going to grow, and diversity in magazines will be a normal thing to see. The author takes a few different aspects of the industry and analyzes them, for example, how race among teens is not as much of an issue; therefore diversity is greater amongst magazines that appeal to the teen audience. Carr is writing this essay to a wide range when it comes to an audience there are two different aspects that make this true. The first reason is that, race does not pertain to a single age range, and reason number two is that because he does talk about teenage magazines. A younger teen might not be very interested in this subject, but an older teenager could be, so the audience could be considered roughly seventeen and up.…

The article titled “Working at McDonald’s” by Amitai Etzioni is in short describing how there is no individuality in working at a fast food restaurant. Kids have no initiative and cannot make many individual decisions for themselves. There is no real career training when it comes to working in a fast food restaurant. In saying this, Etzioni is correct. After all he the winner of the 2001 John P. McGovern award in Behavioral Sciences. He states that McDonald’s is bad for kids, not because of the food itself (which is still unhealthy) but because of the fact that they are working for them. Also, the hours children have to work are ridiculous.…

When I read the short story the prince about S. Leon Kleinman who every two months would call in sick at his job and go to museums and just have a his own little day off. I thought what the heck is this guy doing and how is he getting away with this but threw out the whole of this short story I thought he was very crafty and had a good thing going. Mr. Kleinman worked at an office type job and dreaded working there and thought that all the people were stupid and he hated them so he did it to have his little private time but this little scheme finally game to an end when his boss Mr. Graham found out that he was skipping and called him to his office to see what was the deal and so kleinman came in and they started talking and his boss was asking him questions and kleinman was admiring his painting and Mr. graham saw this and he saw that he had a creative side when he was making statements like to own a prince painting one must be a prince and then the boss Mr. graham offered him a promotion for having such an understanding and love for art. The ending of the story I have to admit I was not expecting that he would get a promotion out of all the things I thought he would maybe get fired and it was kind of ironic because he skipped work and it got him promoted and it spoke on the kind of person he was and all this proved that you can beat the system if you plan it right just like how you saw in this short story and he did all this to do what he loved which was art which…

Those incarcerated today are not given the chance to change their behavior patterns, especially when it is in regard to drug addiction. The criminal justice system in general does not consider drug abuse as anything but a crime and does not think about treating the disease of addiction in order to reduce or eliminate the crimes that come as a result. Drug rehabilitation is a valid alternative to incarceration that may help alleviate or even solve the problem of jail and prison overcrowding. If you could cure a disease in less time and have it cost less than just merely treating the symptoms, what would you choose to do?…

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states “that specific physical, cognitive and visual abilities may decline as people age but adds that age alone is not enough information to judge someone’s driving ability.”(Westport News) This is why retaking the test should be mandatory. There should not be an age limit on driving since not everyone is the same. If there were to be an age limit the elderly people will think that society is trying to take away their freedom. Nevertheless, while one driver may have 20/20 vision and good hearing, another may rapidly be deteriorating. The state should be flexible with elderly drivers to make sure they’re tested to protect everyone’s safety. It’s important to save lives so this should be enough to get everyone on board and realize what kind of situation is going…

Prison crowding and unnecessary prison costs are a major issue in the United States. It is not worth spending billions a year on prisons. There are better ways to deal with offenders than sending them to prison. The great majority of inmates in prisons are non-violent drug offenders. These offenders should not be imprisoned. Instead, alternatives such as therapy and rehabilitation may be used as a way of decreasing prison population. By offering alternatives, government and taxpayers’ money including valuable prison space will be saved. Essentially, the justice system will be saving lives. Evidence and research shows it is preferable and effective to offer treatment instead of prison time to addicts. By not sending the addicted drug offender…

Premature sexuality is a widespread problem in the United States. According to Ray Eldon Hiebert, (n.d.) “The United States has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies, teenage birth, and teenage abortion of any industrialized nation” (p. 1). The average teenager deals with the media all day long, they wake up listening to the radio and talk with friends about what happened on the previous days episode of their favorite program. Once they get home from school, they are flipping channels, surfing the internet or reading the latest issue of their favorite magazine. This brings to mind a quote I read by Larry D.…

Not to long ago American Police used to just throw drug addicts into jail without any treatment , not caring that the addicts might had a family, or that maybe they were tricked into taking the drug(s), or maybe it was peer pressure. Lucky for those addicts, a lot of people are now protesting and saying that along with the punishment they should get treated and partially its not the addicts fault that they are addicted. So as a result of those protests now many drug addicts are being treated, but not all. There is still is the question, should drug addiction be considered like a disease and treated with medical treatment or like a psychological problem and be treated with therapists?'.…

In today’s society automobile accidents are an everyday occurrence. Mishaps can happen anywhere at any given time. In the past ten years accidents have averaged around ten million occurring for each year (US Census Bureau). That is 100 million automobile accidents in ten years. Most people would automatically point their fingers at young drivers in today’s world. A number of accidents are caused by teens though I believe a worse threat is starting to appear. This threat being elderly drivers over the age of 70. These elderly drivers could be considered dangerous due to their decline in sensory. With more elderly drivers increasing over the years, drivers everywhere could be in danger. Within the next 20 years the number of elderly drivers is expected to triple in the United States (Older Drivers). To combat this the solution is simple which is to make elderly drivers retake a driver course test.…
