Consequences of Ecotourism

Ecotourism is a form of tourism that involves visiting natural areas -- in the remote wilderness or urban environments. According to the definition and principles of ecotourism established by The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) in 1990, ecotourism is "Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people." (TIES, 1990).
Ecotourism is responsible travel to fragile, pristine, and usually protected areas that strive to be low impact and (often) small scale (as an alternative to mass tourism). Its purpose is to educate the traveler; provide funds for ecological conservation; directly benefit the economic development and political empowerment of local communities; and foster respect for different cultures and for human rights.

I strongly believe that, matter how ecotourism has benefits, it caused lots of troubles for the environment and culture of the origin people.

As a unanimous fact, Tourism brings with it a number of consequences that include social, cultural and environmental as well as economic growth and it is bound to have positive and negative aspects to it. Ecotourism is no exception and though it has many major benefits there are a few not so positive sides to it such as the negative effects of ecotourism that touch on various aspects including low level jobs being created which are offered to the local population. Among the negative effects of ecotourism that affects many ecotourism countries is that higher and management level jobs generally are gobbled up by white people leaving the local population being satisfied with the less paying jobs.

The negative effects of ecotourism also means that ecotourism can in rare instances cause damage to the natural resources with corals being damaged and even the marine life underwater gets depleted due to over-fishing which is done to meet the increase in tourist market demand.
