Some of the basic keys to college success are effective note taking and study strategies. Take all of your notes in separate notebooks with the titles of each class on them. When you take notes, you want to make sure that you date your notes so that you do not get mixed up as to what you were taking notes on at that time. You also want to make sure that you give a title of what you are taking notes on and highlight key terms if necessary. The lectures given in class are very important and are definitely something you may want to take notes on. The next step to being successful would be to have good study strategies. Studying in a quiet place generally helps everyone when it comes test time.
When you take a test you want to make sure that you take your test in the same type of environment that you studied in, like a library. Do not study for more than two hours at a time. Studying for a long period of time for one day is not very effective because your brain will not continue to take in the same information at one time and it can become confusing. You may want to consider only studying the same material for only twenty minutes a day because that is all it takes for most people. It is also very effective to manage your time wisely. Almost anyone can take twenty minutes out of their day to study, it’s not that hard. And definitely make sure that you do not study as a last minute thing, that is called cramming and you will more than likely fail the test by doing that. Preparing for an exam is also something that is very important. It would be very wise to prepare for an exam by making a study guide or chart.
If you are an incoming freshman, now would be a good time to start setting goals for yourself. One goal should be to understand the importance of a college education and how it is going to benefit you in the long run. College is expensive, so I wouldn’t want to just walk in... [continues]
