Time Travel

People often wish that they could go back to the past and correct their wrong behaviors or go to the future and see what it turns out to be like. The idea of time travel has been the topic of science fiction movies and novels, and has been studied by great scientists throughout history. “Ideas of time travel have existed for centuries, but when Albert Einstein released his theory of special relativity, he laid the foundation for the theoretical possibility of time travel. As we all know, no one has successfully demonstrated time travel, but no one has been able to rule it out either. Time has fascinated people throughout the dawn of civilization. People have spent their life thinking about these concepts and the ideas behind them” (Kulkarni,2011). Although the possibility of time travel has been criticized, a lot of modern scientists still argue that time travel is possible. This paper attempts to prove that time travel is possible. To better understand this assertion, we first need to study where this concept started and primarily the theories supporting this claim. Then, how it would be possible to travel to the future and to the past. Also, the philosophical understandings which include paradoxes and other arguments that tend to disprove the possibility of time travel.
Ideas about time travel has been passed from generations to generations and it could be traced back to the years before the birth of Jesus

During the rise of Modernism, the world began to approach literature and the complexities of life in a new manner. According to The Norton Anthology of World Literature Vol. F, within this era of new discovery, scientists were also finding that the world does not function the way it appears to: “The most famous of the scientific discoveries of the early twentieth century was Albert Einstein's theory of relativity” (Puchner 10). Einstein’s theory of relativity has been a topic of discussion since its birth in 1905 to many Modernist writers such as e. e. Cummings, William Faulkner, James Joyce, and Robert Frost (Johnson 217). It is not surprising that these creative writers, along with Jorge Luis Borges, were intrigued by this theory. Humans…

In 1915, Albert Einstein first proposed his theory of special relativity. Essentially, this theory proposes the universe we live in includes 4 dimensions, the first three being what we know as space, and the fourth being spacetime, which is a dimension where time and space are inextricably linked. According to Einstein, two people observing the same event in the same way could perceive the singular event occurring at two different times, depending upon their distance from the event in question. These types of differences arise from the time it takes for light to travel through space. Since light does travel at a finite and ever-constant speed, an observer from a more distant point will perceive an event as occurring later in time; however, the event is "actually" occurring at the same instant in time. Thus, "time" is dependent on space.…

Obviously, ‘futurism’ also suggests simply an idea of a segement of time, deriving from the structuring of our experience and language around a tripartite scheme of past, present and future. Nineteenth-and twentieth-century philosophers, writers and artists, from the Pre-Raphaelites and Marcel Proust, through Henri Bergson and Umberto Boccioni, to Jean-Paul Sartre and Francis Bacon have been greatly preoccupied with time.…
