Effective time management is a necessity needed by anybody who is expected to successfully manage busy lifestyles. Coordinating business and personal commitments can be very daunting and overwhelming, but with an effective time management system, time can be used for more practical purposes creating less wasted time, stress, tension and chaos. First and foremost, in order to ensure time is spent wisely, managers need to determine how much time is being spent on various tasks and analyze the tasks. Tasks that are unnecessary need to be restructured or eliminated in order to ensure more creativity and productivity and less wastefulness. If managers use the right approach and use effective tools such as the time log, they will notice more productivity and accomplishments. A time log requires writing and analyzing daily activities and identifies where time is wasted. For example, sometimes employers may realize time is wasted discussing things in meetings that could be more efficiently communicated via email. Time logs also help managers/employees realize that they often underestimate the time needed for specific activities. A time log helps an employer analyze activities and practices and then make necessary changes which streamlines daily activities and maximizes productivity.
Time logs can be a short term tool to use and data can be collected for 1-2 weeks in order to gather the necessary information.
